1964 Debut record Davy Jones and the King Bees release “Liza Jane” in 1964.

1966 Debut record as DAVID BOWIE “Can’t Help Thinking about Me”.

1966 Question.Why the name change from DAVY JONES to DAVID BOWIE ?

Answer. During 1966 and 1967, THE MONKEES charted four number one albums, in the US. Worldwide chart-topping singles, 8-tracks tapes, reel to reel tapes and vinyl albums. TV show 1966-68, 58 episodes. Live concert tours.Their lead singer, DAVY JONES.

On the night of the BEATLES debut, on The Ed Sullivan Show. Davy Jones appeared as one of the other acts that historic night. [February 9th 1964] DAVY JONES was The Artful Dodger in the Broadway revival of “OLIVER”.
Jones appeared in over 2600 “Oliver” performances in London and 774 performances on Broadway (NYC). This production ended in November 1964.
Jones was Nominated for a Tony Award.

1969 “Space Oddity”. “Ground control to Major Tom…”    Single produced by GUS DUDGEON.  Dudgeon career highlights. “She’s Not There” by the Zombies (1964).“Space Oddity” by David Bowie (1969) Beginning in 1970, Dudgeon produced all of ELTON JOHN classics 1970’s albums. This including the single, “Rocket Man” (1972).

SPACE was a hot cultural and news topic. 1966-69 “Star Trek” TV series, 79 episodes.  All of NASA’S  7 Moon Landings: [1969-72]  1972-Harry Nillsson “Spaceman”, (“…now that I am a spaceman, nobody cares about me”).  1968: FILM: “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

1970 1st of 2 Marriages Bowie marries Angela Barrett [1970-1980] 10 years

1975 LUTHER VANDROSS  …..Vandross, the backgound singer, before his 1981 breakthrough success, “Never Too Much”. 1975 “The Cher Show” As “Fame” hits Number One in the US, Bowie sings that and a duet with Cher, his “Can You Hear Me?”. Bowie sings a medley of rock ‘n’roll hits.

1976 Saturn Award “The Man Who Fell To Earth” (1976). Bowie wins a Saturn Award for Best Actor.
Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films bestow this award, beginning in 1974. …Film, TV and home video.  ……1st James Caan, ”Rollerball” (1974)……….2nd Don Johnson, “A Boy And His Dog” (1975) later, Miami Vice’s Don Johnson! ………3rd David Bowie, “The Man Who Fell To Earth”(1976)

1976 Top of the Pops TV series (UK). 20 episodes as performer.

1976 to 1979 Bowie’s  “The Berlin Years”.  Three albums while living in Germany.   “Low” – 1977, “Heroes”- 1977, “Lodger” – 1979.

1977  Bing Crosby  “Peace On Earth /  Little Drummer Boy”. Crosby’s last Christmas special called“Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas”]   The show aired, just 45 days AFTER Crosby’s death on Nov 30, 1977. {imdb.com} . Bing Crosby [1903-1977] RIP, age 74. Died on Oct.14 1977.

1977 Dinah! The Dinah Shore Show. Iggy Pop – punk music pioneer, with DAVID BOWIE keyboards. Bowie looking classy, Iggy more punk and rebellious looking and acting.

1982 “Cat People” With Giorgio Moroder, (1942 horror film, “Cat People”, a 1982 remake) Morodor was the disco producer behind Donna Summer greatest songs. “Call Me” by Blondie.

1983 “CHINA GIRL” Songwriter, Iggy Pop

1983 STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN SRV’s Breakthrough.
During SRV’s recording of his debut “Couldn’t Stand The Weather”, Bowie hired him to play on what turned out to be the four hit singles. Bowie and SRV first met at the 1982 Montreax Jazz Festival. “Let’s Dance”, album, Produced by Nile Rodgers

1983 NILE RODGERS Producer, Let’s Dance (LP)  The biggest-selling LP of David Bowie’s career.

Rodgers also produced the career, biggest-selling album for Diana Ross. CHIC: Nile Rodgers [rhythm guitar] Bernard Edwards [bass]
and Tony Thompson [drums] create, Chic, a disco power-house [1977-80]. Also, the studio/backing band for Sister Sledge [1979-81] 2103: Pharrell Williams teams up with Rodgers and creates the Grammy Award-winning smash, “Get Lucky”.

1983 “Major Tom (Coming Home)” Sung by Peter Schilling.
Schilling created this sequel to Bowie’s “Space Oddity”, in English and German versions.

1983 TIME Magazine cover. “David Bowie” “Dancing To The Music – David Bowie Rockets Onward”. Also cover of TIME, in tribute, after his death in 2016.

1984 TINA TURNER . “Tonight” the title cut, from Bowie’s album, studio version with Tina Turner.  Turner was riding the crest of the block-buster, “Private Dancer” LP. 25 Million $old. Four Grammy Awards. Six hit singles. Plus her “Ike & Tina” legacy and worldwide acclaim during her non-stop, frenetic, world tour, 177 shows in 320 days in 1985.  The last cut on the “Private Dancer” album is “1984”, written by David Bowie.

1984 “Jazzin’ For Blue Jean” Grammy Award winning Video. “Jazzin For Blue Jean”. A 20-minute short film.

1985 LIVE AID Four songs: “TVC 15”, “Rebel Rebel”, “Modern Love” and “Heroes”. Thomas Dolby (“She Blinded Me With Science”, 1982) was on keyboards for Bowie.

1985 LIVE AID MICK JAGGER “Dancing In The Streets” Video Debut.

1999 French Honor Bowie was made a “Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French government.

1999 Massachusetts Berklee College of Music Honorary Doctorate.

“David Bowie’s three-song set at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom didn’t draw a lot of attention back in November 2006. He played as part of Keep a Child Alive’s annual Black Ball fundraiser, along with Alicia Keys, Damian Marley and comedian Wanda Sykes, breaking out “Wild Is the Wind,” “Fantastic Voyage” and “Changes,” which he sang as a duet with Keys. Nobody had even the faintest idea it would be his last public performance before his grand disappearing act.
